Just a bit of perspective …

Spinal meningitis – already immune
Yellow Fever vaccine – check
Polio booster – check
Typhoid pills – half-way through the cycle
Malaria prescription – filled

Well, looks like I’m on my way to Africa! I’m so excited for this life-changing experience, and lets face it, the change in perspective is already happening.

While I was sitting in the nurses’ office contemplating the challenges in my life and treading those deadly waters of self-pity, I was given a peak at what life is like for so many in this world. Deadly diseases are a part of everyday life. Hunger, sorrow and pain is a daily occurrence for millions of people.

So here is a little reminder of just how lucky we all are! Next time you take a drink of water, marvel at the fact that you don’t even think twice about the diseases you may get from it. Next time you get a bug bite, instead of being bothered by the nuisance, be grateful your life isn’t at risk.

And on a lighter note…

The nurse told me that the malaria medicine makes your skin even more sensitive to sunlight – sunburn here I come! My classmates are already starting to make fun of how much I’m going to stand out.

Study break

I stole Landens 'nerd glasses' to see if they held any special nerd powers. I was hopeful that my accounting would suddenly make sense through these cute new lenses.

Alas, all that happened was a successful distraction, and now I plan to play the night away, even though all of this homework still awaits.
I'm really good at sharing if anyone wants to join me!

Love is in the air ...

Isn’t the day of Love just Loverly?
I think it’s such a fun holiday. And lets be honest, with the sun shining like it was today, you can’t help but be happy!

So, in honor of cupid’s joyful day, here is a wonderful quote from a silly movie (Win a date with Tad Hamilton) that I just can’t help but love.

“Pete: Like do you know she has six smiles? One when something really makes her laugh. One when she's making plans. One when she is laughing out of politeness. One when she is uncomfortable. One when she is making fun of herself. And one when... she's talking about her friends.
Rosalee: You have five smiles Pete. One when you think someone's an idiot. One when you think someone's REALLY an idiot. One when you're singing to Barry White. One when you're getting all dressed up. And one when you're looking at me.”

So keep smiling because you never know who is falling in love with all your smiles.

BeSt EvEr

If you were stranded on a desert island and could bring one food item with you, what would it be?
Mine would be apples and peanut butter. Yup, that’s right! BEST Snack EvEr!

(I know this is technically two things, but I’m the one making the rules here.)

I just thought you might want to know.

Fail

Um … I’m failing accounting! I have no idea what is going on and it is showing quite obviously in my quiz scores!

Why does math even exist? It shouldn’t be this hard people! I don’t want your T-chart or accounting journals and FYI credit and debit are not what you’re telling me they are. I’ve had lots of experience with both these cards and you can’t just go and change the definition on me just like that!

When I’m president of a company I’ll have to pay someone to organize these numbers for me! Don’t get me wrong, I know how to read the important numbers – NET INCOME – but other than that, someone will have to be there to explain all these other trivial liabilities, expenses, assets, stockholder equity, insurance policies etc.

So, since I’ll always have someone there to help me in the ‘real world’, can I get a little help on my quizzes?!?!?!

Here we go again...

I really don't know if i'm ready for round two...Everyone promised the second semester is easier than the first, but after a week of classes and 9 hours of homework today, i'm not so sure I should believe them.

So I think it's a time for a little study break to show off some of the fun things I did over the break when homework didn't rule my life. :)

I LOVE that Christmas is still so magical at my home ... and would you look at how fast he's opening that present - he's a professional. ;)

Spending time with my family is my favorite thing in the whole world. I was especially grateful that I was able to have so many extended family members and friends over this year! Don't Kori and I make adorable little gifts?

Oh yes, there was also more filming. Got to love that family bonding time. The SFP program is almost done and I couldn't be happier to see where it goes from here. If you don't know what i'm talking about, check this old post out and then check out THIS.

Ok, so I've thought about this sledding adventure about 5 times today. I so wish I was doing that instead of studying, but that's life! I'm just glad I got to have such great adventures while I was home!

HaPpY BiRtHdAy!

Today is the birthday of a very very important young lady! I don't know if you are all aware, but this beautiful woman is 99 YEARS OLD TODAY! Can you believe it?
(Grandma Judy, Mom, Great Grandma Nora, Me)
How did she celebrate you may ask? By having a little open house so she could visit with her 100's, yes 100's, of decedents! I wasn't able to visit with Grandma Nora, so i'll have to visit her in a few weeks when i'm home from school. But I heard that she practiced her Jitter Bug and informed everyone at her party that if you didn't know how to do that dance back when her and my Grandpa Ernest were courting, then you couldn't go out dancing, which meant you had no chance at getting a cute boy/girl!

It's a shame that the dating world isn't the way my grandma remembers it.

Happy Birthday Grandma Nora, and here's to another spectacular year to come ... and keep dancing! :)
